I was not particularly ecstatic about the full day and a half of airports we would have to endure before we reached our destination, but I have to say it was not nearly as bad as I thought. We were together, and that made it all the better.
The only bumpy moment was when they separated us at boarder control in France because of our different types of passports and I wasn’t sure if we would both come out at the same place and wasn’t sure if I could connect to the wifi to find out where he was and and and—it was fine.
We had enough time before our next flight, the fourth one of the day, to visit a nearby little French village near the airport where we strolled through late seasoned rose gardens and munched delectable pastries before catching the next bus (which made me feel like that scene in Harry Potter when Harry gets on the night bus because boy do those drivers just go) and started the bag checking process.
This was the moment we realized we may have over dilly-dallied as the line was pretty darn long and our flight boarded in a little under an hour or so, and after checking the bag we didn’t know how long of a line at security we would have. Thankfully we made it with time to spare, only to have to stand in a hot bus for what felt like three hours while we waited to walk out to our plane. Now I know what it feels like to board a plane like a president (only I’m sure they don’t have to wait in a hot vehicle like a forgotten dog in a parking lot).
But in the end we achieved our desired result—we made it to Edinburgh!! Where I have seen many tiny red headed children, walked for long long hours through castles and stunning streets and alleys and cafes and had an incredible English breakfast, the “all day breakfast” at the Sea Breeze to be specific, and it really did hold all day which was amazing. The owner was smoking a cigarette when we got there, but we let him finish and the meal was worth it.
He gave us a free caramel and chocolate wafer bar after learning it was our honeymoon.
Yesterday we saw saw hairy coos and the harbor and many other Scottish things and walked until our legs felt like they’d fall off at the joint, followed by a tasty meal of shawarma.
Today is a rest day, and it’s perfect, because the UK rain finally showed itself and we are tucked in with Scotch pies and tarts with the windows open to the gray, misty morning.
Edinburgh has been everything I always hoped it would be, from the people to the weather to the beautiful sights, but of course the best part is by far the company I have to experience it with.
Well, that is all the time I am wiling to give to this blog endeavor right now as there is a dear over there writing in a travel journal and a tea on the table getting cold that require my attention.
Thank you for reading and wish us luck on the next leg of our journey—Málaga!
