Top 10 favorite fiction books

I love reading. I love discovering new stories and characters, learning new techniques, and falling for new writing styles.

It’s true that if you don’t make time for reading, you won’t have time for writing. The two go hand in hand beautifully.

I want to compile a list of my current top 10 reads for future reference and comparison. It will also prove to be an excellent source to point people to when they ask me what I recommend.

In no particular order:

1. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

By Suzanne Collins

Anyone who knows me will not be surprised to see this one on the list. I love The Hunger Games franchise dearly and though they are all amazing in their ways, the middle child is my go-to.

I’m sure everyone and their mom know what The Hunger Games is about so I’ll spare you the detailed account.

2. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Battle of the Labyrinth

By Rick Riordan

This entire series is gold, to be honest, but Labyrinth holds a special spot in my heart. If you’re one of the few people who haven’t dived into the world of Rick Riordan, start with the Lightning Thief and work your way forward. It only gets better.

3. The Heroes of Olympus: The Mark of Athena

By Rick Riordan

This book, the third book in the Heroes of Olympus series, is one of the longest and the funniest. Except for that ending. I’m still bitter about that cliffhanger, and I didn’t even have to wait long to find out what happened. I highly recommend this entire series if you love mythologies, humor, young love, and incredible adventures.

4. The Shadow Land

By Elizabeth Kostova

This is a more recent read, but I fell in love with it almost immediately and I know it will stay a favorite of mine. Kostova weaves a rich and enthralling world of history, mystery, and heartbreak. I didn’t want it to end.

5. Throne of Glass: Empire of Storms

By Sarah J. Maas

The entire series is a win for me, but this one is a victim of Large Cast Syndrome, so you gotta love the characters to make it through the entire series. I liked every book for different reasons, but Empire is the one I’ve gone back to the most.

6. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight

By Jennifer E. Smith

Love, traveling, hilarity, family drama—what’s not to love? I read this book in one sitting after getting it for Christmas one year, and it became an instant favorite.

7. If You’re Out There

By Katy Loutzenhiser

This one spoke to my heart. It has stuck with me for months. If you’ve ever been confused about where you stand with a friend, this one may be for you. It’s not completely and 100% relatable in the plot, but the concept speaks true and real.

8. The Lunar Chronicles: Cress

By Marissa Meyer

Ah, TLC. I love this series. I’ve said that about every single item on this list but it’s true, okay? I have a big heart. Cress, in particular, had me laughing, crying, sighing, and gasping through the whole thing. A+ series with a stellar cast and interesting concepts, Sci-fi with a YA makeover and a great premise.

9. Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom

By Leigh Bardugo

This duology blew my mind, I still think about it. I recommend it to everyone who even whispers that they’re thinking of reading more fantasy.

These, along with the rest of the Grishaverse, are all mesmerizing stories of sacrifice and love, loss and trauma, wars and inner battles.

I think it’s more satisfying if you start with Shadow and Bone and work your way through them in order, but the Six of Crows duology can be enjoyed without having read the trilogy.

10. The Infernal Devices

By Cassandra Clare

I was reading some of my favorite scenes from this series last night, no joke. Adventure, romance, tragedy, action. It’s got it all. the world of the Shadowhunters is fantastical and thoroughly entertaining.

I could go on, but I’ll bring it to a close here. Those are my top ten favorite fiction books as of 2019. I hope this offered some inspiration and good starting points.

Thank you for reading!
