It’s well known that colors speak, but what are they saying?
I love colors and I use them in any way I can. Each hue has a voice, something to say, and I love listening.
We’re going to cover 3 of my favorite, and most conversational, colors. Each one has a positive side and a negative side, but today we’re going to focus on the positive because that’s the kind of headspace I’m trying to embody today.
Golds and Yellows

The tones of yellow go far and wide. Mostly, they say joy, light, and laughter. Sunflowers are a golden shade of summer sun; yellow roses say friendship. The dark golds of the world mumble prestige and market. Golden yellows scream autumn afternoons by a river that hasn’t iced over yet.
I love this color because of its versatility, and because it always has something to say. My favorite phrases from Yellow are “Let’s go!” “Wake up!” “Remember to hug your friends!” and “It’s going to be okay.”
Blues

All the tones of blue say something different, but we’re going to focus on a Dark Sea and Summer Sky. Dark Sea, the deep teal that says healing and peace, mystery and intrigue. The one that offers guidance and hides a wicked glint inside. Teal will pull you in and help you recover, offer peace, but it may leave new questions in its wake.
Summer Sky is different. Sky says “Look around!” in a cool, vast, blanket of silky-smooth blue. It says “Dream big.” And “Keep going.” It conveys trust and honesty; blue will never lie to you.
The blue of a clear summer sky will make any work of art say “You should stay here a second and take it all in. Breathe.”
Reds

Oh, red. Color of my heart. Literally.
Red is, again, vast in its schemes. We’re going to focus on the richness of Burgundy and the potency of Strawberry.
Burgundy says “Look closer.” It means velvet and passion and love. Burgundy says to me “Think.” And “Remember.” It’s not only a color of passion but of crisp autumn mornings and calm strolls through a quiet forest, abloom with the dressings of fall.
Strawberry red says “Have some fun!” It’s a carnival, a date night, a birthday party. Strawberry brings on energy and warmth and excitement. Her close relative, Cherry, does much the same in a more boisterous way. Strawberry will tell you “Look here, don’t look away.” Or maybe, “Stop looking at me!” if it’s feeling particularly embarrassed. It’s a flush in your cheeks in the cold, and the sunburn on your shoulders when it’s hot.
Those are three of my favorite tones. They say much more then what has been discussed here today, and I’d encourage you to research what your colors are saying.
Who knows? Maybe they’ll even say something completely different to you. You won’t know unless you listen.
Thank you for reading!
